JPMorgan Chase has gone above and beyond its peers in diversity and inclusion efforts, according to one measure released Tuesday.
The banking giant was named the Diversity Corporation of the Year by the National Business Inclusion Consortium and National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. The groups highlighted the Top 30 American companies for diversity.
“We’re proud of this recognition by NBIC,” JPMorgan Chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon said. “People are our most important asset and enable our long-term growth and success. Maintaining a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive is not only the smart thing to do — it’s the right thing to do.”
The NGLCC said the distinction recognizes business commitments to the LGBT community, people of color, women and people with disabilities, among other groups. It said it hopes highlighting diversity efforts will push more companies to increase their engagement.
“By recognizing these industry leaders and the policymakers who collaborate with them as the best-of-the-best, we are creating a better future for all diverse communities in business,” said Justin Nelson, the NGLCC’s co-founder and president.
To be considered, businesses had to fill out a survey on their diversity programs and engagement opportunities. The groups considered the companies’ efforts as well as their ratings by other rights organizations.
