Dialog Semiconductor & Atmel Corporation

Dialog Semiconductor is buying Atmel Corporation in a deal valued at nearly $5 billion. Atmel will provide the firm with a larger portfolio of products and a bigger sales channel. Shares of Atmel surged 12.5 percent to $8.19.

Denbury Resources 

The oil and gas producer Denbury Resources announced it is suspending dividend payments starting with the fourth quarter in an effort to save cash. This comes as the entire industry works to battle the effects of slumping crude prices. Shares rose more than one percent to $2.94.

Tribune Publishing 

Tribune Publishing saw its shares tumble after the company, which owns the Los Angeles times, lowered its earnings and revenue outlook for the year. The company blamed results in Southern California. Shares slid more than 17 percent to $8.75.


Macy’s says it plans to add 85,000 seasonal workers for the holidays. The number is slightly lower compared with last year. Shares were off a fraction to $53.91.
