Time Warner Cable is gradually recovering from multiple nationwide outages, the company stated on Wednesday, after routine network maintenance interrupted service.
In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, some of the company’s 15 million nationwide customers across 29 states used Twitter to vent about connections that had inexplicably gone dark.
Confirming multiple reports, the company issued a statement citing “an issue with our Internet backbone” that disrupted cable and web connections across the country. “As of 6 am ET services were largely restored as updates continue to bring all customers back online,” the company added.
The outages quickly became a trending topic on the microblogging site, with subscribers griping about lost service.
On Tuesday, TWC settled with the Federal Communications Commission for $1.1 million, stemming from charges the company failed to report multiple network outages. Comcast, which is the parent company of CNBC, has proposed to buy TWC for $45 billion.
