Former President Carter suspects his email is monitored by NSA

Does the National Security Agency’s Internet snooping reach into the email inboxes of former occupants of the White House? Former President Jimmy Carter thinks so.

In a view-ranging interview with NBC News, President Carter told NBC’s Andrea Mitchell that if he wants to communicate with a foreign leader, he “type[s] or write[s] a letter myself, put[s] it in the post office, and mail[s] it.”

“I have felt that my own communications are probably monitored,” he told NBC News.

Carter also said that he feels spying by the agency, and perhaps other organs of the U.S. government, has been “extremely liberalized and, I think, abused by our own intelligence agencies.”
