U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Tuesday slammed Russia for its occupation of Crimea, ticking off a list of what he said were false pretenses for Russian military action.
“They have shown restraint despite an invasion of (the) Ukrainian homeland and a Russian government that has chosen aggression and intimidation as a first resort,” Kerry said of the Ukrainian government.
Kerry said there was no justification for many of Russia’s claims.
“Not a single piece of credible evidence supports any one of these claims. None,” he said.
He also said the United States was preparing a package of aid, starting at $1 billion, for Ukraine.
“We are helping Ukraine to cope with Russia’s politically motivated trade practices,” he added.
